Leslie Maasdorp (Chairman)

  • Leslie Maasdorp is President of Bank of America Merrill Lynch for Southern Africa. He was appointed to this role in January 2011.  He is also non-executive Chairman of Navitas, a black owned South African renewable energy company.
  • From 2006 until 2010 Leslie served as Vice Chairman of Barclays Capital and Absa Capital, responsible for senior client coverage at CEO and Chairman level for the investment bank.
  • In 2002 he became the first African to be appointed as International Adviser to Goldman Sachs International, a role he served until 2006.
  • Prior to his 10 years as a senior investment banker, he occupied several leadership positions in the South African Government. From 1992 he served as a Economic Policy Advisor to the Department of Economic Planning of the African National Congress (ANC), the ruling party in South Africa. In 1994, at age 27, he was appointed Special Adviser to the Minister of Labour in the first democratically elected Government of South Africa. He served as Senior Manager in Strategy for Deloitte Consulting for four years.
  • In 1999 he was appointed as Deputy Director General in the Department of Public Enterprises leading the restructuring and privatisation program of the Government. During this time he played a leading role in several privatisations in South Africa including the listing of Telkom on the JSE and NYSE.
  • Leslie holds a B.A degree in Economics and Psychology from the University of the Western Cape and a M.Sc degree in Economics from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London.
  • In 2007 he was designated as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. He serves on the Boards of several listed and unlisted companies including as Chairman of Advtech, which is listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), Cell C and Robor. He also serves on the Board of the Soros Economic Development Fund (SEDF) in New York.

Juliet Mxhakaza

  • Juliet is currently the managing member of Umthombe Enterprise and serves as a director on the board of Tranter Gold. She is the leader and initial founder of Sidima Investments, a company wholly owned by black professional women.
  • Juliet served for four years as an executive director of Amazwi Power Products, an engineering company producing mining equipment and power generation products. Prior to this, she held various management positions in the engineering, petrochemicals and retail Industries.
  • Before joining the private sector, Juliet worked for the Department of Education as a teacher for several years.
  • She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Project Management Diploma, MAP, and currently studying towards an MBA.
